Ms. Johnston is an experienced online research specialist, with expertise in multidisciplinary DIALOG, Factiva, and Internet online searching. Specialty areas include property/casualty insurance, safety and health, medicine, risk management, and general business topics. She is able to master new disciplines and resources quickly to provide relevant and accurate information products and services to a wide range of clients. In addition, Ms. Johnston has a particular ability to research, evaluate, analyze, organize, and summarize information from multiple and varied sources. She also is skilled at communicating complex written information to diverse audiences, and has an excellent track record helping clients communicate their knowledge effectively to business partners and customers.
Prior to establishing Peregrine Information Consultants, Ms. Johnston served as Director of Information and Research Services in the safety and health division of one of the nation’s top ten property-casualty insurers. In her 15-year tenure there, she managed a highly successful information center in a customer-driven technical and business services operation; developed services to meet the complex knowledge needs of executives, safety and insurance professionals, and insurance customers; and developed a heavily-used and highly valued virtual reference service for a diverse, remote clientele. During her tenure, she was the recipient of numerous quality and service awards.
Ms. Johnston received the Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Simmons College, and was elected to Beta Phi Mu, the International Library and Information Studies Honor Society. She also holds the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Massachusetts, with degrees in music theory and voice. She is the author of “Cataloging in Sci-Tech Libraries and Information Centers” (Special Libraries: A Cataloging Guide, Libraries Unlimited 1998), as well as numerous papers on a variety of topics.
